Sceptre X20g-Naga III Mini-Review - 2006/02/22 10:51 Well, I've just recently said to myself, "Time to move on from this 19" CRT into a nice widescreen LCD panel. I had always been looking for a nice widescreen LCD, but never found any that were affordable and offered more than 1366 x 768 resolution.

That all changed a couple of days ago when I got my Sceptre X20g-Naga III from TigerDirect.ca. The screen had a $50 rebate offer, which dropped the total down to $489.95 CDN (+ taxes). I said the hell with it and bought it. I am addicted to high resolution settings, and I cringe if I cant run my main computers at 1600 horz. resolution (at least).

This monitor uses DVI and also comes with the cable. I hooked it up to my Radeon 9800 Pro and was using it in no time. The resolution of the screen IS nice and crisp, the response time is nice at 8ms, and the brightness levels are intense (the way I like it, but can also be turned down).

I did notice one minor thing that kind of irks me a bit, and that is when i have dark text on a grey background, it sort of looks like there's a 'glow' around the letters. This phenomena is greater when ClearType is turned OFF. I have tweaked my ClearType settings to what I think is best, but it still doesnt really help. I read that the pixels on this monitor are somewhat rectangular to get a 16:9 resolution as opposed to 16:10 (which I WOULD have preferred). Anyways, quite a minor issue, and I can definitely deal with it, especially when I paid less than $500 CDN for this monitor.

Overall, I'm VERY happy with my upgrade to 20.1" WIDEscreen, and I think I'm gonna go play some F.E.A.R. now!!
